CELEBRATING SUCCESS, INNOVATION, AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The 2021 Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 Awards program marks the 35th anniversary of the prestigious celebration of Greater Rochester’s fastest growing privately-owned companies. Starting in 1987, the Top 100 Awards began in conjunction with Greater Rochester Chamber’s Annual Meeting but grew into its own program and took center stage–a testimony to the strong sense of entrepreneurship and rapid growth that is characteristic of our region. Over the past 35 years, 909 companies have been recognized with collective revenue of nearly $300 billion brought into the Greater Rochester region since the inception of the Award. Since the program first started, KPMG LLP has partnered with Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce to recognize the area’s fastest growing companies. KPMG collects and compiles all nominations. After the program deadline, information for all qualifying entries is confirmed by KPMG and all revenue figures are held in the strictest confidence by KPMG. To be eligible for the award, businesses must be privately held, headquartered in the nine-county Greater Rochester region, and have earned at least $1 million in revenue in each of the three most recent fiscal years. The ranking list is computed by KPMG based on revenue growth, taking into account both dollar and percentage growth.

Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 Awards are a way to celebrate the unique innovative spirit present in the Greater Rochester nine-county area. Celebrating the fastest growing companies in our region is important to recognize all that these companies have done to provide Greater Rochester with a strong economic backbone and celebrate the ways in which they have enriched our community. Additionally, the Top 100 companies are prime inspiration for the next generation of entrepreneurs in our region and can be a beacon of hope for the possibilities that lie within the Greater Rochester region. The awards ceremony held annually in November at the Floreano Convention Center is one of the most joyous and is the largest business celebration in our area. It has grown from the meeting of just 200 business leaders to an event that draws nearly 2000 change-makers in Rochester to celebrate the Top 100 companies. Greater Rochester’s business executives and their team members look forward to the exciting ceremony’s pyrotechnics and confetti cannons every year and treat it as a way to recognize and celebrate all the hard work and dedication of their teams–the people that enable their success in the first place.

Other areas have tried to replicate the Top 100 Awards program but have been unable to find the success we have here in the Greater Rochester area, which again speaks to the irreplicable nature of the entrepreneurial spirit in our region. Greater Rochester Chamber is proud to support the growth of all companies in our region and enable our member companies to thrive and grow to new heights, year after year. The 35th anniversary of the Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 gives us a chance to look back and reflect on the growth our region has experienced, and all the successes from Rochester-based companies. While the 35 years since the inception of this award have been full of victories, we believe that the future is brighter as Rochester enters a new era of prosperity and our companies continue to grow, prosper, and reach levels of success unprecedented in our community.

Celebrating Business:

The 2021 Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100

BOB DUFFY

Greater Rochester Chamber President and CEO The Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 is our region’s most anticipated celebration of the year. It recognizes success and the entrepreneurial spirit of innovation that continues to put Greater Rochester on the map. Each year hundreds of companies vie for placement on this illustrious list that ranks the fastest-growing, privately owned businesses in our region. After the isolation and challenge of the past twenty months, we’re delighted to be able to bring the Top 100 back to an in-person celebration. There is nothing like getting together with hundreds of the region’s top business leaders to lift the spirits and inspire growth, and we welcome and thank you all for your presence and support. Not to mention that fact that our Events Team, led by Susan George and Cassidy Franklin, sure knows how to throw a great party. The 2021 Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 companies employ close to 24,000 people locally and 45,000 nationally, and reported total revenue of over $14.5 billion. The economic impact generated by these businesses has real influence on our community, and their triumphs correlate directly with the success of their vendors and ancillary businesses. Reading the

stories of the Top 100 companies each year serves as an incredible inspiration. These companies show the world that making the Greater Rochester/Finger Lakes region your home base is a recipe for success. We want to offer a huge thank you to our sponsors, without whom we would not be able to host this exciting event. Thank you to our presenting sponsor, ESL Federal Credit Union, and our major sponsor M&T Bank. Thank you also to our premier sponsor, Delta Air Lines, Paychex, and Waste Harmonics, along with our partners, 13WHAM ABC, Fox Rochester and CW Rochester, Audacy, CMI AV, and KPMG LLP, as well as all our corporate and supporting sponsors. The Greater Rochester Chamber Top 100 event honors one hundred outstanding companies each year, but it also represents the success of our entire community. Greater Rochester and the Finger Lakes region is poised for explosive growth and success thanks in large part to the individuals and companies that we are honoring this evening. Thank you for all you do for your employees, customers, and this community. Be safe, enjoy this year’s success, and get ready for Top 100 2022!

Resilience in the Face of Uncertainty

JAY GREEN

KPMG LLP Rochester Partner We are so excited to come together to celebrate the achievements of the 2021 Rochester Chamber Top 100. The most recent year in the measurement period for these results was the 2020 calendar year which was significantly impacted by the pandemic and other disrupting forces in the market. While many businesses have struggled during the pandemic, others have pivoted, experienced growth and success, and became better-positioned to thrive for the long-term.

Congratulations on your outstanding performance. We extend a special thank you to the Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce for teaming with KPMG for the past 35 years. We look forward to honoring area companies that make significant contributions to the Rochester community for many years to come. kpmg.com

In analyzing the data, the results are remarkable and tell a story of resilience and tenacity that should make the Rochester community proud. Total overall revenue for companies in the 2021 Top 100 approximated $14.5 billion compared to $13.7 billion in 2020 – an increase of 6%. At the same time, we noted 27 companies, including 2 of the top 3, that did not make last year’s Top 100 which demonstrates not only the competitive nature of the Top 100 list, but also the consistent excellence required to remain amongst the top companies in Greater Rochester. Despite the large number of new companies joining the Top 100, we observed relative stability in overall industry representation. The service industry was the biggest gainer on the list (plus three) while there are four less technology companies versus the prior year. We also noted a nearly 50% increase in the number of minority, women, or veteran owned businesses in this year’s Top 100. Overall, there is no doubt that achieving this recognition required flexibility and resourcefulness in the face of adversity. Congratulations to each of the 2021 Rochester Top 100 – you have much to celebrate!

Showcasing Dual Success:

A Minority & Woman Owned Business

Q&A

Annika T. D’Andrea

Tender Loving Family Care, Inc. Chief Executive Officer

WHAT IS YOUR SUCCESS STORY THAT OTHER MINORITY BUSINESS OWNERS CAN LEARN FROM?

I am a passionate, dedicated and ambitious entrepreneur from a small island with big dreams. I was born and raised in Westmoreland, a rural area located on the south side of Jamaica. I emigrated from Jamaica as a teenager and moved to the United States. Growing up in rural Jamaica, I was surrounded by hardworking, dedicated individuals and understood from an early age the importance of hard work. I was taught that I had the ability to achieve anything I dreamed as long as I worked hard. This is a belief I have carried with me throughout my life experiences, and have taught my own three children who are now young adults. At around six years old, I started helping and caring for those in need. At that young age, I would help people in my church and the community with any tasks that I was physically capable of doing. As an adult, I had first hand experience of what it’s like to care for a loved one, without having the resources and support available to provide respite and other much-needed services. This experience is what led me to create my own home healthcare business. The road to a successful business has not been an easy one. I started this business from my home with just two employees. After a few months and clients began to refer me to their network, the business grew exponentially. Growing any business is a significant risk, but also very rewarding. We were not without our share of challenges as we embarked on our new journey, but my passion for helping others has been the key to our success. In spite of the challenges, holding firm to our day one mission, “our family, caring for you family” has allowed me to be steadfast and intentional with our growth and development.

WHAT’S YOUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE?

Growing Tender Loving Family Care to new heights. We never stop learning, and with learning comes growing. I believe Tender Loving Family Care will expand to more markets and serve many more clients. I also believe we will develop innovative programs to keep our communities and our clients engaged and build upon our group of companies to offer a wider range of healthcare services.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO YOU TO BE A LEADING WOMAN OWNED COMPANY IN THE ROCHESTER COMMUNITY?

Being a leading woman owned company in the Rochester community is an achievement I am immensely proud of receiving. To be recognized for the hard work my company delivers to the Rochester community is indicative of our mission to provide quality compassionate service to our clients. It also underscores the importance of our responsibilities as business owners - to ensure we serve our community and enhance the life of those we serve. I have worked very hard for this accomplishment, and at a time when many businesses have been severely impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, I am elated to be able to lead and provide an essential service to the community. Early in my life my family instilled in me the importance of helping others and serving my community. To be able to help the community of Rochester with such a valuable service is truly a dream come true. I am the child of immigrants and I can vividly recall the challenges our communities faced with growing up without caregiving support. This is what has driven my passion for health care and the service I am able to provide to my community.

HOW HAVE YOU OVERCOME THE CHALLENGES OF BEING A WOMEN OWNED COMPANY?

Leading a woman-owned company has many advantages, but it is not without its challenges. Over the last 14 years I have learned to be resilient and develop strategies that help me handle and withstand the many hurdles of being a woman charting her own course and leading a successful business. My support system and dedicated employees have been pivotal to overcoming the many challenges I have faced. I have also been able to lean into the same community I serve to navigate these challenges. My determination to be successful has kept me above ground on days when the challenges seem more than I can handle. I am also constantly reminded that the services I provide to the community are valuable –many of the families I serve directly depend on me to provide care to their loved ones and because of that, I am constantly motivated to overcome these challenges. With determination, resiliency, agility and a network of people who share my passion I have been able to navigate many challenges.

A Collective

OF CELEBRATION AND RESPONSIBILITY FAHEEM MASOOD

President and CEO, ESL Federal Credit Union Year after year, it feels as if the Rochester Top 100 celebration becomes more and more meaningful. We are coming up on two years of navigating the COVID-19 pandemic and there is not one business on this list, or throughout our community, who can honestly say that they haven’t been profoundly impacted by its effects. Your achievements on making this year’s list is an honor and a cause worthy of awesome celebration. On behalf of everyone at ESL, I wish you – and all of the employees who have gotten your organizations to where you are today – heartfelt congratulations on your success and sincere gratitude for your impact on the Greater Rochester community. Whether you work with a team of a few, or among a team of hundreds, your effort has demonstrably positive effects on our community, individuals, consumers, families, and other businesses throughout our community. We aren’t just celebrating higher revenue figures tonight. Those numbers are certainly impressive and the ultimate reason behind the Top 100 rankings. What we’re truly celebrating is growth and progress as we witness the real effects and impact of what revenue growth leads to: more employees, more wages and benefits supporting families, more research, more development, more innovation, more ideas, more income to spend with other businesses in our community. It’s a continuous cycle, one that every one of us are intrinsically linked to and have an effect on. Tonight we celebrate the collective good you bring and provide to Greater Rochester. Without you, without your successes, without your grit, your resiliency, your ingenuity, your drive to dream bigger, we would not be the community we are today.

Greater Rochester is a better place because of you. Tonight is worthy of celebration. I also impart that with our celebration this evening, we keep in mind the responsibilities that come along with it. With success comes a weight of responsibility we all carry: to continue on a path to progress, to ensure our community is in better condition next year than it is this year. So I ask, after tonight’s celebration, what actions will we take to drive success next week, next month, next year?

Throughout our community, there is much being done to improve, strengthen and grow our local economy. These initiatives deserve of our attention, gratitude and support in the name building a stronger, more resilient Greater Rochester. One example you may be familiar with is the ROC2025 initiative. This collective of our community’s top economic development organizations (Greater Rochester Enterprise, Greater Rochester Chamber of Commerce, Rochester Downtown Development Corporate, Visit Rochester, Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council, Monroe County and the City of Rochester) works collaboratively to accelerate growth throughout Greater Rochester. This initiative focuses on four priority areas: • Talent Attraction & Retention • Business Attraction, Retention & Expansion • Downtown Innovation • Regional Marketing The ROC2025 initiative is a collective effort yielding positive results for employers throughout Greater Rochester. In just two years since ROC2025’s launch, our community has significantly improved its ranking among its 53-metro peer group. These improvements include: • Job Growth: Improved by 8 points • Unemployment Rate: Improved by 6 points • Labor Force: Improved by 23 points • Regional GDP: Improved by 26 points As evidenced by your inclusion in the Top 100 and your role as employers and revenue generators, you have also contributed significantly to these positive results for our local economy. At ESL, we not only support ROC2025 via funding, but we’re also participating in some of their initiatives such as Greater ROC Careers and Campus ROC to promote job opportunities in our community and retain the top-tier talent coming out of our local colleges and universities. To learn more about ROC2025, you can visit www.roc2025.org and www.greaterroc.com to get a complete overview of the important and essential work they do. With the focus on our community’s strength and resiliency, we must also pay close attention to work being done to increase and improve racial and ethnic equity throughout Greater Rochester—efforts that can and will have a profound impact on the success of our local economy.

In early 2021, the Racial and Structural Equity (RASE) Commission, convened by Monroe County and the City of Rochester, released its report of findings and actions that the community can take to build equity. The final report from this cross-sector, community-wide initiative featured contributions from more than 20 commissioners and dozens of community volunteers. You can read the complete RASE Commission report at www.rocrase. com. It provides a blue print for ways the community, including private businesses, can help make a positive difference. While there are specific working groups in the report focused on Business Development and Job Creation, the findings of all nine working groups (Business Development, Criminal Justice, Education, Healthcare, Housing, Human and Social Services, Job Creation, Mental Health and Addiction Services and Policing) are informative and enlightening.

We know that positive change cannot and will not happen overnight. At ESL, we take the RASE Commission report’s findings to heart and are currently working to implement the applicable actions where we can. As of writing this article, we have “Banned the Box” in line with the City of Rochester’s ordinance on asking about a job applicant’s prior criminal conviction on initial employment applications, we no longer drug test applicants and credit checks do not determine employment. We have also reviewed and rewritten our postings for job openings to ensure they are more accessible to wider candidate pools and we just launched a Relationship Manager Development Program—a 12-18 months training program that provides career development opportunities for people to become relationship managers on our Business Banking team. In regards to Housing, we have launched the ESL First-Time Homebuyer Grant for Black and Latino residents and partner with numerous nonprofit organizations such as the Greater Rochester Housing Partnership, Flower City Habitat for Humanity and the Urban League of Rochester Economic Development Corporation to help fund affordable housing initiatives—be it for multi-family units or homeownership. While what has been mentioned may be considered a productive start, we know that there is still much to learn and much more work to be done. We know this because Greater Rochester’s success is dependent on collaboration, ingenuity and innovation. No one person or single organization can make our community vibrant and resilient on its own, but individuals and organizations working collectively can keep us moving in the right direction. Along with the community initiatives mentioned, the Top 100 is an excellent example of what collective ingenuity and innovation can accomplish in Greater Rochester. Together, you employ thousands in our community and generate billions of dollars in revenue.

That is a collective effort worth celebrating year after year, and we are honored to join and celebrate with you. Congratulations on making this year’s Top 100! We wish you continued growth, and offer our sincere thanks and gratitude for all you do for our community. 2021 GREATER ROCHESTER CHAMBER TOP 100 • 42
